In a triumphant display of viticultural prowess, China secured a record-breaking 272 medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2023, eclipsing its previous year's tally by 40. This new benchmark in the global wine arena is a testament to the nation's rapidly evolving wine production landscape.

Of the 272 medals, nine were prestigious Gold awards, 83 were coveted Silver, and 180 were well-deserved Bronze. Poh Tiong Ch'ng, the regional chair for Asia, elucidated the criteria for a Gold wine, emphasizing a harmonious fusion of fruit, structure, and freshness.

Chinese red wines, in particular, flaunted their versatility and excellence across international grape varieties and indigenous grapes. One such grape variety, the Marselan grape, has emerged as China's 'signature grape', demonstrating the country's diverse terroirs and its ability to cultivate distinctive, high-quality wines.
